Stroud Lake Review

Yesterday 1/16/2023, my husband and I decided to drive the few extra minutes to Stroud Lake and ride. I wanted to try it out after I discovered it was still a place that we could ride at. Let's start with I was really impressed with this little ride!
For starters, lets discuss how to get there and where to park.
You can google map or apple map "Stroud Lake" and it will take you straight there, however, I was coming from Maud OK so I just took highway 99 all the way to E840 rd and then I turned back to go East and followed that road about 3.5 miles into the park.
There is a big sign saying "Stroud Lake", you can't miss it. The road to the lake for the first 3 miles is smooth. Once you get out of Lincoln County, the road turns rough. Drive Slow.
Once you get into the park, there is a yield off to the right and a way to go straight- take the yield. Follow the dam and park over by the pavilion. There was not a designated parking for the equestrians, so I just parked off the road a bit.
The trail head is close by the circle drive. (You can look up 'Buckskin Trail Blogger" on Facebook and see photo's, videos, and this review as well.
The trails are half and half between barefoot friendly and shoes being needed. My horses have good hard soles and tough walls. So I got away with riding barefoot here. The rocks are bigger, with a few patches of gravel road type size rock here and there for the first 10-15 min of the ride then it gets more sandy with the bigger rock. This is not sand rock however.
After you get off the water a bit and passed all the creaky bridges (btw you will have to go around these bridges through the woods- do not go on them- not rated for horses) the trails turned more into dirt bike trails. Dirt bikes are only allowed when they are putting on races. Otherwise, hikers, bikers, and equestrians are allowed on the trails.
Some of the dirt bike trails are really sandy and gives a pace for trotting and loping on the trail if that is something you enjoy to do like we do. The trails are very fun and quite beautiful for as little of a lake it is.
The map you can find on 'all trails' says 5.6 miles but I logged 6.36 and could have logged more. When coming to a dirt road crossing at about 5 miles out- there is a split in the trail. It goes left (or straight) or off to the right. We took the left side and so it spit us out at the bottom side of the dam by the frisbee golf courses instead of out at the trail head. I feel if we would have kept right, it would have taken us back where we started.
There looked to be a few places you could ride kinda across the loop and such, but we just stayed on the main path. The trails are very well marked and clean. The only complaint that we had were that the limbs were trimmed for the height of a dirt biker or a hiker, so we had to dodge a lot of limbs on the way. But for the most part, it was alright.
There are a few places along the lakeside that you could stop and get water at. I would try getting water at the sides with more rock vs the sand. The sand was sinking in spots and i feel if it was any wetter, it would have been boggy.
This place does however look like it could flood if we were to get a lot of rain- the trails are not far from the water at all. So I would probably check the water levels or ask on facebook trail riding groups if anyone is aware if the trails are flooded or not or better yet give it a week from the last heavy rain and then go to be on the safe side.
All in all i rate this place a very well 9.5/10 just because of the limbs lol
Happy Trails yall!
