Stroud Lake- Stroud OK

Location

840 Rd east of H.99/US.399 about 3.5 miles, Stroud OK

The sign telling you where to turn for the lake is very large and has the trail-riding symbol on it. Careful- when you take a sharp turn to the north on the lake rd, it crosses county line and it gets rough and narrow.
-
When entering the park- take a right at the fork and follow the road along the dam to the pavilion. (will be a half circle drive that goes up towards the lake. (screen shots below) I parked up past the campsites up off of the road. There was not a sign stating where to park.

These trails were built for a dirt bike race in 2019. Dirt bikes & 4-wheelers are ONLY allowed during sanctioned races. In the meantime, we are welcome to use them to keep them from becoming overgrown.
-
The trails are nice and wide, very well marked with ribbon.
-
Barefoot Friendly if your horses have good hard hooves.
-
Nice pretty lakeside trails
-
2 bridges that are not rated for horses to corss over. You have to go around them through the woods across the creek.
-
Beginner friendly trails with a few short but steep gully crossing.
-
No camping- Day ride Only
-
6-7 miles of riding. Trails are majority barefoot friendly sand terrain- like prague. The start of the trail is a little more rocky but I do consider this a barefoot friendly place.

Trail Review: 1/16/2023
My husband and I decided we would drive the extra 15 min past Prague and head on down to Stroud lake one day and ride instead. The roads were nice until we crossed out of Lincoln County and then they were a little rough all the way to the lake for about a mile. When you get to the lake there a fork in the road. Take a right at the fork and follow across the dam and park over by the pavilion. The trail head is over there as well. There weren't any signs stating if we had to park in a certain spot or not so we just parked off of the road in the grass up past all of the camp spots. The trails are shared with hikers as well. At the start, there are a few spots with rock here and there but as you get farther into the trees, it turns more into sand and dirt bike trails. Dirt bikes are only allowed when races are being put on. Otherwise, we are free to use them. The trails were quite nice. The only thing that wasn't accomidating for horses was that the limbs weren't trimmed back for our height. Trails were very clean however and you can't really get lost here even if markers didn't exist. There are a couple of bridges that are NOT rated for horse weight. Just find a your way through the woods to get around them- do not cross over them. We did not end up riding the "correct" trail that led us back out of the same trailhead that we entered in at, but I think I know where we may of messed up at. There is a dirt road that you end up crossing and a split in the trails that takes you off to the right or to the left(kind of keeps straight) and we went straight. That ended up taking us on the backside of the dam where the frisbee golf courses are at. I did see other hoof tracks so I do belive that it is rideable. There was not a sign saying otherwise. We managed to ride 6.36 miles. But we also did not go all the way down once we knew we didn't come out at the trailhead, so there is probably a little bit more mileage than that.
All in all I do really like this place and will ride it again in the future. Rated 9/10.
