Idle Nook Review:

I got to visit this wonderful camp for the first time ( I thought I had visited by car before... but it was NOT the same camp LOL so i am not sure where we were at prior a couple of years ago... but anyway)

This camp is AMAZING!!

To begin: It is easy paved roads (from seminole oklahoma area that is) all the way to camp- Camp is located right off of US-270. There are 2 entrances to the camp. If you are coming from the west, it's going to be the first road for larger trailers, I missed the first drive but with my trailer, had no issue getting down the second drive. It's just a little more sharp of a turn and a little more narrow of a drive coming in off of the hwy to hit the second drive than it is with the first drive.

The camp has a dumpster at the driveway before you enter into camp. Camp is BIG RIG FRIENDLY- you will have absolutely no issue getting your rig in even if camp were full. There is Ice, t-shirts and hoodies for sale at camp- they go off of the honor system- you can pay at the box that is over by the camper where the ice house is at- there is also ice located in the pavilion in the deep freezer. You can also paypal them- but it is asked to use the friends and family option to avoid fees.

The Pavilion offers showers, the water stays hot but a slight sulphur smell (all through the camp water) my horses personally drank it fine- In fact one mare i have to salt all the time because she is awful at drinking when away from home unless she is lathered, drank really well!! There is a cool Karaoke stage, disco ball, full kitchen, flat screen with 1000+ movies to choose from.

For those who don't have a LQ can rent a camper or one of the 2 bunk houses. The Nook is a bunkhouse complete with bed, bath and kitchen. There is an additional toilet, shower and sink in a small building behind The Nook. The other bunk house is on the other side of the "Mitzi's Karaoke Stage" and it houses 2 beds.

Each site has water and electric- there are covered stalls for the horses but stall grounds are packed hard gravel type grounding so i recommend bedding for them so they don't stove up.

Trails:

Many many miles of trails- Trail map is on the Gaia GPS app- The map is private, so either fellow camper that has it downloaded or Jack and Mitzi can get the link to the folder sent to you via email. They emailed it to me a while back and then I shared it from the Gaia app to my husband and aunt.

It was my first time to ever use Gaia- and I loved it! This app is super accurate. Unlink maprika (which I cant even use because I have an iphone) where you have to ride down the trail a little ways to make sure you are going the right direction, Gaia's compass is so sensitive you just have to rotate your phone as if using a real compass and the tip of the arrow will point whichever direction you want to go. There are many colors that duplicate like red and blue- so this comes in handy at junctions in the trail. It is free to use as well.

Trails- in my opinion- range from easy to advanced (for mountain riding that is) Why I consider some to be easy is from just the experience where the grounds stay pretty flat for majority of the ride- this isn't to say that there is not moderate to advanced spots within the easy level trail.

For where we rode, (I will post a screenshot of the actual map and then the tracks we rode- they will be different colors) the most advanced part is just how steep the heels can get- and they can go up for a long while too- But i for sure have ridden worse at Devils Den and Robbers Cave then I found here.

We rode up to the cell towers which was bout the hardest ride- lots and lots of up... and i mean UP... it was a short loop that we rode- 5.5 miles so we rode that day one when we got to camp for a quick ride.

The ride to the cemetery is one of those I considered as an easy ride- It was pretty laid back I don't really remember having to pull too many hills on that one. We rode pink from camp up to blue then bypassed red off to the west (due to loggers) and then crossed the creek and hit red on the north side of the creek and went down to the cemetery. There is a drop down into a small creek you have to pass through to get to the cemetery but its not bad at all. All the creeks except the large one we passed over to get to the red north of blue were dry. Sadly none of the waterfalls were running either due to the lack of rain.

We rode the purple loop, down to twin falls then over to the other yellow that just kinda sticks out there on the map and then the last day we rode purple to the orange that shoots across the purple back to red to camp. The trail to twin falls is easy but when you pass the falls is when it gets tougher. Purple is what i would consider moderate.

All in all these trails have endless miles and routes to choose from due to how much it spiderwebs out. We didn't get to ride the long pinks and the big yellow loop to double falls. Our horses weren't in shape for that lol but we still enjoyed what we did get to ride. The double falls loop itself is a 10 mile ride and that doesn't count getting down to the falls which I believe easily adds about 7+ miles.

I highly recommend this camp! I could type all day about all the good things about this camp. I honestly couldn't find anything different I would do or like to have except maybe access to purchase shavings for stalls. But that really is personal preference.

Jack and Mitzi are awesome people and run a great camp. There was a weird rumor apparently going around that they are closed too.. I never heard it until I saw them post about it on facebook but that is far from the truth and I hope they never close!!
