Riding into the New Year!

Lots of goals to achieve and lots of memories to create! We originally were planning to ride this weekend on Jan 1 but because of the weather and having the little one, we rode at thunderbird lake on New Year's Eve instead. We started the new mile log with 7 miles.

We will be riding at the house, Prague, may take a day trip to Lake Carl Blackwell, probably ride at thunderbird again as well to keep the horses in shape and get them ready for the march trip. While I'm still not sure on which place we are going to be visiting, there is a lot of talk about going to Horse Heaven Ranch Resort in Talihina OK.

Horse Heaven's Camp is kind of ran down. I visited that camp in person in 2020 and was not impressed, however the friend that I am going with, said that it is a great place to go, the trails are worth it! So finger's crossed that this place is worth the view. With it being in the same general mountain range as Heaven's Gate and Cedar Lake, I am sure that it will be.

In the fall, I will probably be returning to Heaven's Gate so I can ride the blue and probably the yellow trail, maybe the Jeri Loop as well with breaking the trip in with a short 7 mile ride on the Flats. Opal was not in the greatest of shape for our first trip to Heaven's Gate so we purposely did not ride many miles. She will be in much better shape come this next time and come march so it will be much better for her.

I am also hoping to take a few more small trips like weekend trips to places I have yet to visit like, Platter Flats, Duncan Lake, and Sardis Lake. I have high interest in these places for short trips due to their mileage which I could easily complete in a 2-3 day camp trip and the facilities and trails are beneficial to us. Platter Flats and Duncan are both barefoot friendly places and Platter flats has more trails then the map I have posted on the Platter Flats gallery to ride. Those trails however, some are marked, some are not and is easy to get lost, but I am always up for an adventure! Duncan is barefoot friendly, and the map is being updated as well. Im unsure of the actual amount of miles so I will be finding this out prior of going to see if it is worth the drive first.

Sardis is not barefoot friendly but it is in the ozark area so it should be a very pretty ride. The campground and such I have been told is very nice as well.

On my biger rides, I do plan to ride Cedar Lake eventually, Horse Heaven and Cedar Lake are the only "big places" in Oklahoma that i am aware of that I have not ridden. Because there is so many miles to ride, I like taking my week long trips here vs the little places. I eventually do plan to adventure across the Oklahoma border into Arkansas and ride places over there like Falling Water's, Idel Nook, Buffalo River and Cowboy up which are just a few of the places that people have recommended on the HTCCA group on facebook (Horse Trails & Camping Across America)

Once I am able to upgrade my little trailer to something larger, I plan to take more out of state trips to go ride elsewhere. There are several places on the HTCCA faceboog group that i want to go to all over the USA!!

Happy New Year y'all and Happy Trails!! 🐴🌻🐴
