FINALLY... made the trip to Arkansas!

Hey guys! I finally made my way over to Arkansas to check out some more campgrounds. My friend Dawn and I took a saturday and drove up to Witts Spring AR, where we checked out 3 different campgrounds. Cowboy Up Trails, Located at 6100 Victor Rd, Witts Spring AR 72686; Falling Waters Horse Camp, located at 1616 upper falling water rd, Sand Gap AR 72856; Boston Mountain Horse Camp, located at 319 Old Jasper Rd, Marshall AR 72650.

Cowboy Up Trails was the first stop. Our GPS, apple maps, took us in off of HWY 7. This resulted in a BEAUTIFUL drive up this twisty dirt road. This road is suitable for rigs due to it being a pretty wide road, but I do advise to get to camp in the daylight if traveling this road. Otherwise I do believe you can come in off of HWY 27 and come in on the back side of it. That would result in payment majority of the way with a short 1-2 miles of dirt vs the 5-6 miles of dirt off of HWY 7. Regardless the roads are easy getting there coming in from okc area with majority of our travels being I-40.

When we got to camp, there is a 1 way drive to the camp until it opens up into the campground, but no worries it is fully visible so you can see oncoming traffic. The campground is a open pasture and trees only behind the camp sites so you don't have to worry about trees being in the way of backing into your spots. This place is for sure the best one out of the 3 for BIG RIGS.

Cowboy UP offers 30 first come first serve covered stalls which are $5/night/horse. There also stands the option of picket lining your horse between the tree line that is behind where trailers park and a few other pens at disposal that is included in the price of stay. Cowboy Up has 18 RV spots with power and water. Campsites are $30/night. You have to call to reserve/check availability. They do have a website which is http://cowboyuptrails.com/ and it has a little bit more information along with some pictures. The website says the stay rate is $25 but the board posted above the drop box said $30. I also posted pictures on my facebook page.

Cowboy Up provides nice bath houses, a kitchen and dining area, options to buy bedding, hay, and ice there at camp as well. In the dining lodge, a large map is provided. I did not get to meet the camp host, but others have stated that he provides a copy of the map for you as well. I did however take a picture of the map posted in the dining lodge so I could make a digital one to post here.

Next we visited Falling Waters Horse Camp. It is only about 30 min away from Cowboy up trails. This camp was very easy to find. GPS did want to take us down the road that leads to the church, so instead we followed to sign right at that turn off and stayed straight for 3.5 more miles. The road to the church still would have taken us to the camp, but it would not of been as horse trailer friendly. There is a HUGE sign that tells you to turn and follow for 1.5 more miles to the camp. The sign you cannot miss.

Falling waters is a cute little camp area but it is not as big rig friendly. Very few spots if really any, were big rig friendly and they would all be a little tricky to get into. They are packet tight. You do have to rent stalls out. There is no room to tie horses out or bring your own pen. There stalls to me, which is in my fb review, looked super small to me, but I've been told by people who have actually stayed that they are larger than they look. Us being in a car looking like someone that just took a wrong turn, I didn't want to make it seem like I was nosing through someone's stuff so I didn't get out to look. Stall size however are 10x10. They are all packed in there though so I think that is why I thought they were smaller than that.

Falling waters also has nice bath houses, a mess hall, an office for check in, much pen, and wash station. I believe as well a map is provided upon arrival. I again did not spot a camp host/ office was closed.

Boston Mountain was our last stop. At first I was not for sure if we had the right spot because the camp area caught me off guard. I had never seen anything like it before. Its a small pasture area just right off the road. So I suppose it is big rig friendly if you got the right spot. They don't have a bath house up and running yet from what I could tell but there is a bathroom in the barn. Also located in the barn are where your horse will stay. They have nice 10x10 and I think either 12x10 or 12x12 pens set up. They have a website as well to contact them through or you can look them up on facebook. Was told from other riders that the trail head is just down the road from the camp but it looked like someone's property so i didn't want to go driving down the road any farther and be trespassing.

Out of the 3 I believe if you can get past the few little things, the trails won't disappoint. with them all being relatively close to one another I think no matte where you camp you will get a great experience!!

I however think this year, come the fall, I will be trying out Cowboy Up trails. If you ride out far enough, the trails can connect to falling waters, but that is a ride!

I hope this helps extend the minds of some who want to adventure out farther East and get those miles and the beautiful ozark scenery!

Happy Trails!!
