8 Days into the New Year!

Welcome to any of my new followers and hey yall to my current followers! We are 8 days into the New Year and I cannot believe that Buckskin Trail Blogs has been running for 3 years now! Time flies when you are having fun!!

While it is a wet and nasty monday morning and we have a strong cold front blowing in later this week- my ponies are probably enjoying their break for a couple of weeks however after that blows by it will be time to start getting in shape for my annual spring trip me and my husband take and i hope to see some of y'all there! I don't host big get togethers mainly because oetra already does that and I don't want to take away from their events and accidentally double book so i just make announcements (mainly on facebook) when and where I will be riding.

Our spring trip is March 27-31 and hoping for it to be at Heaven's Gate if she doesn't book up before I am able to actually book myself lol but if she does we will try somewhere new or some place we haven't been in a hot minute. My Aunt Gail goes with us on these big trips and she has a large rig so I have to accommodate on where we go to make sure she can fit her trailer in on these large trips.

I hope to be doing a few random weekend trips close to home like sportsmans lake but we will see- Spring is hard for me to camp in due to after holiday expenses and such but I will be day riding at local places frequently to help get the horses in shape other than round LOL

Speaking of places to ride- Horse Heaven is no longer- and while they havent been a good place in a long while, they are officially closed and are selling out. I wish I had a couple million dollars because I would buy it and fix it up and reopen it myself and get things back on the mend! I have been told by the older generation that this place used to be a great one to visit.

Last year we managed to get about 341 miles rode which isn't to bad considering Mia got hurt in May so she was off most of the summer and then it was just too dang hot to ride after that. I started my 2 year old under saddle (being ridden that is) and logged about 30 miles on her out of the 341 and hope to be taking her on her first camp trip in the fall when she is closer to being 4 years old. I ride her inconsistently for now because she is only 3 (officially will be 3 in april) and I am in no hurry to be taking her on big adventures or riding her everyday to put that stress on her body this young. So Mia will go on my big spring trip, I will day ride with Denali probably once to 2x a month on going somewhere and then she gets ridden 2-3x a week (mainly close to that 2x a week) just enough to stay on her so she doesnt get to fresh. Denali will be about 3.5 when October/november rolls around so I think taking her to sportsmans or something more challenging will be ok for her to do! Then by her 4 year old year she can for sure go on the big trips. Mia had her first big trip at 4 years old back in 2020 at Robber's Cave- we however rode longer than intended due to the trail boss getting us lost lol so she was super tired but had a good couple of days of riding that trip and we have been a lot more prepared since then for body conditioning and studying the map lol.

This year i hope to log a couple hundred more and grab 500 miles at the end of the year rather it be on any of my horses and just get it as an over all goal- least right now I have all horses rideable so if one gets hurt again this year I am able to ride someone else lol- but knock on wood- that doesn't happen this year!!

On a fun note- I had also invested in the Scoot Boot Enduro's so I could ride at rocky places more often and adventure further out here and there when I had the diesel money to do so for day riding and i also got lucky enough for them (originally bought for Mia) to also fit Denali! - I absolutely LOVE my Scoot's!!! My husband ordered the Cavallos for his mare because the scoots did not fit her feet because she is club footed, but she over reached and pulled the fronts off when we rode at sportsmans lake- we rode 16 miles in circles trying to find the other boot to only find one of them.

So I have a size 2 slim cavallo trek (brand new only has 16 miles on them lol) and 2 size 1 regular cavallo boots for sale- $270 for all or $90 each. I also was given a pair of easy boots and they are size 1- we have semi retired opal so we don't need these boots either and ill take $80 for both. I have a picture of them on my facebook page-

I also am selling my barrel saddle- it is a 16" Heart O Texas brand- bought brand new in 2021 ( i think early 2021) and i rode in it for like 6 months until I got my trail saddle and I quit barrel racing so it has just been sitting. Its a deep seat, rough out- comes with the stirrups and back cinch as well and has been house kept since i stopped riding in it and I am asking $750 for it. I will not ship the saddle- but will meet for pickup- I am located in Maud Oklahoma.

Happy Trails yall and Hope everyone has a great year!!
